Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been crowned Macro Employer of the Year 2017 for Lancashire, Cumbria and the Liverpool City Region.
We were recognised at the National Apprenticeship Service’s North West Regional Apprenticeship Awards because of the exceptional work we do with apprenticeships.
We started our apprenticeship journey in 2012 because we are invested in the welfare and vitality of the communities we serve and are committed to the provision of safe, effective and compassionate care through educational excellence. We provide wide range of high quality educational programmes and services that support attainment, achievement and advancement for all the staff we who work in healthcare related services or aspire to do so.
Apprenticeships are also supporting us to address key business challenges in the recruitment and retention of staff within a number of departments and roles, apprenticeships have provided an ideal solution to those problems.
We have innovated in the apprenticeships and opportunities we offer; introducing the Pre-Nursing Apprenticeship in September 2016, which allows apprentices to apply for the Nursing Degree Programme upon completion of their apprenticeship.
Our apprenticeship programme is diverse and the range of apprenticeships we offer increases every year. We offer apprenticeships in disciplines including Accountancy, IT, Pathology, Administration and Pharmacy to name just a few.
The support we offer our apprentices is incredibly important to us, and has been central to our process from the very start undertaking regular reviews with apprentices to ensure they are making the necessary progress and that they are happy within their role.
We also like to recognise the achievements of our apprentices’ and hold an Annual Apprenticeship Awards ceremony as part of National Apprenticeship Week.
This support, and the hard work of our apprentices, is reflected in the fact that we retain 89% of our apprentices upon completion of their apprenticeships – putting people on a long term supported career path with us.
We have recently been approved as an Apprenticeship Training Provider, which gives us full control over our future apprenticeship programmes, and allows us to deliver training to meet our own specific needs in healthcare and management.
Andrew Stone, Apprenticeship Business Manager, said: “We are delighted that our commitment to apprenticeships has been recognised by the National Apprenticeship Service. We have worked hard to develop a programme that supports our apprentices to achieve successful careers in their chosen profession. The apprenticeship programme is supporting us in addressing some of our key workforce challenges by providing us with local staff and ensuring that we support our local community by providing employment opportunities.
“Our expectation is to continue to increase the number and breadth of apprenticeship opportunities in the years ahead as we seek to develop our workforce of the future.”
